Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Shipping company scammed me; should I sue?

I lived two years in Florida and had an appartment fully equiped. When I moved back to my country I hired a shipping company to take everything there (Ecuador). They received the cargo here and shipped it to Ecuador.

After it arrived, EC customs seized EVERYTHING the company had in their warehouses because they were smuggling liquor and now are standing trial because of that (It could take years and they will lose everything seized). I never received my things and the company doesn't want to answer for my property neither here or over there. I lost everything I owned there, I even sent my clothes, wedding pictures, everything. I am back in the states and would like to see if I can sue them for all my stuff plus personal and emotional damages. Do you think it would be possible, and if so, do you know an attorney that could help me?

Re: Shipping company scammed me; should I sue?

You have a pretty clear case against them, assuming that they have funds to respond to a complaint. Your problem will be with damage limitations in the contract. You will not be able to recover for emotional damages. The most possible, without reference to any contract limitations, is the fair market value of the property, plus interest since it was seized.
