You should send a certified letter demanding proof of the debt and disputig the debt. You should demand that they provide proof of the debt and discontinue communicating with you pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. This will force the creditor to either go away or sue you. If the collection agency continues after the certified letter, you may have claims against the collection agency.
