Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Child Custody

I have been separated from my soon to be ex-wife for nearly a year. Since that time I have had 50% custody of my 2 children. There is no court order regarding the custody and a dissolution is pending. I recently started dating. My ex states that when my new girlfriend is around she has legal grounds to keep the children from me. My g/f is a wonderful person no criminal history and no substance abuse. Is this possible or is my ex trying to pull a scam?

Re: Child Custody

Your soon-to-be-ex is wrong. No law forbids you from bringing the kids around your new girlfriend, but you should be wise about it. Think of the kids first. Don't bring them around someone that may not be in your life for long, or they may get close to her, then get hurt. Make sure you date her for at least enough months to be pretty sure she'll be around for a long time, probably forever, before she meets the kids. Definitely don't have her sleep over when the kids sleep over.
