Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

dissolution of marriage

I paid alimony in the amount of 150.00 a month for 52 months for bills that were in my ex wife's name only. the only way to make me pay was to attach it as alimony. She was awarded a Staples bill in the divorce that both of our names were on. She filed bankruptcy with approx. 36 months left of my allimony pmts. Am i entitled to sue her for the money that i have paid her after she filed and for the staples bill that I have to take care of now that she was court ordered to pay?

Re: dissolution of marriage

Maybe, if you can prove that the only purpose for the alimony was to pay the bills and not for the usual purposes, such as keeping her in the marital standard of living, providing her an education, giving her money to transition through the divorce, etc. I doubt it would be an easy case for you, though, unless it was specifically written as "for bills" or words to that effect in your settlement agreement or divorce judgment.
