Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Reason to break lease

I signed a 12 month lease in January. 3 weeks after my daughter and I moved in we received a notice on our door of a ''peeping Tom'' in the community. Sure enough, about 3 weeks later my neighbor knocked on my door to inform me that she saw the man in question looking in my windows. (To make matters worse i had just finished taking a shower, ick.) Now my 12 year old daughter is having nightmares and is begging me to move as we had a similar experience at our home 4 years prior. The police have not caught this man and therefore becuase my apartment is on a public golf course I wish to break my lease immediately and move. This is a gated community but the gates are often broken and left open. In addition, anyone has access to the community because it is right on a public golf course. Can I get out of this lease without penalty?

Thank you.

Re: Reason to break lease

Without written complaints and police reports, i doubt it.
