Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Georgia

bankruptcy judgement

I filed chapter 7 in aug of 2003 and it was discharged in nov of 2003. Why is a civil judgement for $2882 that was listed in the bankruptcy still showing on my credit report?

Re: bankruptcy judgement

Bankruptcy does not make your credit history simply disappear. It should reflect that the debt was discharged, or included in the Bankruptcy, but the judgment can still be reflected in the report. Since you did not provide all details on how it is reported, we can only speculate. If incorrect, just dispute it pursuant to the directions that come with the report or on the CRA's website.

Re: bankruptcy judgement

It should not be. The only thing showing should be your bankruptcy assuming that the civil judgment was listed in the bankruptcy and discharged. You can go on the free credit report website and contest this under the category "discharged in bankruptcy" to get it off of your credit report. It also may not be a bad idea to file a "suggestion of bankruptcy" with the Prothonotary in the County where the judgment was entered.
