Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Collection of old judgement

I've had a gentleman call me twice in the last week wanting to settle an old judgement from a credit card. He says the last payment I made on the card was in October of '93 and went on to give me a civil index number that starts with '87. I've since learned that the '87 represents the year the judgement was filed. I have a 813 credit score, and I asked the guy why it wasn't part of my credit and he said the credit card company opted not to go that route. Should I settle with this guy or is there another option? !3 years is a long time to wait before deciding to try to collect, isn't it?

Re: Collection of old judgement

If it is your legitimate debt, the only right answer is to pay the debt. Not paying for several years does not make it go away. Request a written agreement to not report it to the credit bureau in exchange for payment.
