Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Statue of Limitations

Is there a statue of limitations on credit card collections. If so how many years (I'm in Georgia). Also how many years can bad credit information be reported on your credit report?

Re: Statue of Limitations

Where you are is irrelevant. The statute that applies is the one that is in your credit card agreement. Commonly, that will be Nevada, South Dakota, or Delaware, and it often changes with inserts in your bills.

Credit card debts can be reported for 7 years, however they don't go away after the 7 years.

Some statutes of limitation are as long as 20 years, some as short as 4 to 6.

Re: Statue of Limitations

There is no statute of limitation on "collections" in general. They can attempt to collect as long as they want. The statute of limitations is a defense in lawsuits, and if not raised properly is waived. The best way to handle it is to pay valid debts, perhaps they will agree in writing to not report it negatively on a credit report.
