Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Divorce and Spousal Support

I am seeking an uncontested divorce and am trying to find out how much alimony(if any) I should pay to my wife. We have been married 5 years, no children and I am giving her the house we have been living in for almost 5 years. We both have B.S. Degrees, but I make almost twice as much as she does.

Re: Divorce and Spousal Support

There is no way to answer your post without extensive financial affidavits/information from both parties. There is no "formula" for alimony, and alimony depends completely on the specific facts of each case. It is based not just on income, but on expenses, conduct of the parties, and other circumstances. Alimony is rare, but is awarded in some cases. To be able to get an answer to your question, you will need to sit down with a lawyer and have him review detailed financial (and other) information.

Re: Divorce and Spousal Support

Unlike child support, there is no guideline in the GA code for alimony. If you can't reach an agreement, a judge will take a WAG (if you don't know what that means, give me a call) and enter a judgment.
