Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My husband abandoned my child and I 3 years ago, he went to jail after he left for felony B&E and did time he was issued probation he is now an absconder non extraditable. When he was released from jail (2 years ago) I gave him more than 3 chances to be a part of our sons life. He has spoke to our son maybe twice in two years but has had no contact with our son in over a year an a half. He claims to want to be a part of his life has done nothing to show it is he currently on the other side of the country. I have spoken to him about 7 months ago to inform him of how much debt we have to split. Since then he refuses to respond to my texts or calls. I have not filed for divorce because I can not afford. I recently found out his employer and filed for child support and also found out he just had a child with someone else. My question is what legal action(s) can I take? Can I sue for abandonment and will I be able to receive child support for the time he's been gone since I didn't not know where he was until now if child support was not filed? I live in Georgia and he is inKansas.

Generally child support goes forward and not backwards, so in not filing a few years ago you likely gave upo back support. (They would have tried to search using methods you could not).
