I was awarded a $700 settlement in court and now i can file a writ of fi fa--my question is once i do this and attach his property, what happens next?

Nothing really. Once your get your judgment docketed on the GED (very important) most institutional creditors just sit back and wait for a future sale of the property at some point. The judgment is usually paid at the next closing.

There are well defined steps concerning how to collect a judgment. However, $700 does not justify the legal power or lengthy explaination concerning navigating the collection maze.

In addition to Mr. Wood's answer, if you know where the debtor works or banks, consider garnishment of wages or of the bank account. These are fairly simple and inexpensive procedures and the cost of the procedure is recoverable as part of the garnishment.
