Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Getting out of an apartment lease

My wife was told that she had clinical depression and was put on medication. Shortly after this she left me and signed a lease agreement with an apartment complex. After she was in the apartment for one week the medication took affect and she got help through therapy and is schedule to see a physiatrist. She has moved back into our house and wants to get out of the lease on the apartment. They are asking for 2 months rent and $1040 termination fee. Do we have any other options.

Re: Getting out of an apartment lease

Carefully review the lease to see if there is an escape clause. If so, its terms will control. If not, she is on the hook for the full term. Negotiate the best deal she can with the landlord, cut your losses and consider this a lesson learned.
