Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I have owned my home for 6 years and have just found out that the septic lines are feeding into my neighbors yard. The County nor the Contractor want to take responsibility for this even though it was all done before we bought the house. The lot where my neighbors house is now, was vacant when we bought our house. The County says that we have to now pay for this to be fixed! Should this be our responsibility? Also, what type of Attorney would I contact to assist with this if it gets to that point? THANK YOU!

You own the home. You're responsible for the damage your home does to the neighbor's yard. And unfortunately, your failure to do your homework is why you have the problem. No one should buy a house without two things - a lawyer who represents you (not the closing attorney) and a home inspector. A home inspector would have checked out a septic tank and you would have known not to buy the house. Unfortunately, by not doing what every home buyer needs to do, you will pay a lot now for what was preventable.
