Legal Question in Technology Law in Illinois

Selling Info in the Net

My ex-husband is purchasing personal information about me and my credit history (credit reports) via the internet. As we were once married, he knows my social security number, my date of birth, and my mother's maiden name.

Is there a law which prohibits him from obtaining this information? I find this extremely unnearving that he is able to pull such personal information without my knowledge. Is there something I can do to prohibit this?

Re: Selling Info in the Net

The answer to your question depends upon, among other things, the types of information into which he is tapping about you. Certain information is publicly available -- as an easy example, any unsealed court records -- whereas other information is restricted, i.e., drivers license info; credit reports, etc.

The remedy for his wrongful conduct -- assuming it is wrongful -- is likely a lawsuit seeking an injunction and compensatory damages, if you have suffered a monetary loss from his actions.
