Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Can I file a lein or report to the credit bureau?

Can I file a lein or report to the credit bureau an amount of money due to me by a person I provided professional services? The amount is $301.00. I don't think they will pay the invoice I sent to them and would like to know if I have a recourse of action.

Thank you.

In order to "file a lien" you first need to sue them in small claims and get a judgment entered against them. Then you have a judgment lien. You can then file a memorandum of judgment in the County Recorder's office, which would be a lien against any real estate they own in that county. As far as credit reporting companies, you probably won't be able to do that unless you are a member or subscriber.
