Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

In my husband's 2006 divorce agreement to his ex-wife it was agreed that they both pay half of a bill that was owed. Shortly after the divorce was final my husband got laid off work for the winter and filed unemployment. At that time we were informed that his ex-wife had continued to file for unemployment benefits in his name and without his knowledge after he had returned to work. When we found this out my husband made an agreement with his ex wife that he would pay back the unemployment owed if she took care of the bill in their divorce agreement. Unfortunately, we did not get this agreement in writing. Now, four years later she is telling my husband that he still owes the bill from the divorce and it is now $7,000 from $2,000. This bill has not been mentioned in four years and we have never received any correspondence about it at all. My husband's ex said that there is an attorney involved now and a warrant out for my husbands arrest. I confirmed that this matter has been going to court without my husbands knowledge but with the knowledge of his ex. What can we do?

Hire an attorney. The agreement he made ins worth the paper it is written on. Oral agreement are extremely difficult to prove.
