Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

A few days ago i had a dispute with my roomate over money he owed me in Carbondale, IL. He disappeared from the house after I asked him for the $50 as he knew I was trying to leave town to go home to chicago, and after waiting for a while, I went back to my house and found that he still had not returned. I kicked his door, and it being an old run down house, the padlock broke off. I did not enter the room at this time. It was only later after still waiting for him to return that me and my other roomate Sarah entered the room and spit on his pillow. We finally left for chicago as he had never come back and was not at work where he was supposedly going. The next day my roomate who was with me, Sarah, got a call saying that she had been accused of stealing $300 from him. This was a shock because we took no money from him. She then called him and he said that she had to pay him the money. This is complete extortion and I want to resolve it in any way other than paying this asshole money that is not his. I have a witness , my other roomate who would say thta we didnt take any money, and he has absolutly no proof that we took money. The only reason he charged her was because he knows she has court supervision and will go to lengths to not get in any more trouble. No report was filed even though the police came to the house when we were gone, but they say that if we dont resolve it between ourselves then he can press charges. Should we just give him the money or is there a better way?

First of all, if you damaged a door in the landlord's premises, you must offer to repair or replace the door. Your friend is old enough to file a small claims complaint against you if he wants. Go to court and tell your story to the judge.
