Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

When I was in high school, I was arrested with for shoplifting and charged with a class A misdemeanor. I have graduated and college and was applying to jobs and I was employed but on my application, I put down that I have never been convicted because I thought the case was expunged from my records. But I recently got an email from my employer asking for a disposition for the incident? Should I write a letter explaining this along with my disposition? What should I do?

You should try to get the conviction expnunged if possible and yes, if you want a chance for that job, you need to answer their question. Whether to give an explanation is a judgment call on your part, especially since they have not asked for one.
