Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

Illegal Consumption in Illinois

I was recently given a ticket for illegal

consumption. I was never

breathalyzed. I never had any test

showing that I was under the

influence of alcohol. I came in the

next day, completely sober, because

they asked me to and then they

coerced me into telling them that I

had a couple of beers the night

before. I was then ticketed. I was

never read my rights. I'm just

wondering what I should expect,

what's going on, and if I should hire

an attorney. Any answers would be

greatly appreciated.

Re: Illegal Consumption in Illinois

You really do not want to plead guilty and have any alcohol-related conviction on your record. Therefore, I would advise you to hire an attorney. It may be possible that an attorney can succeed in defending you if the police have no independent evidence other than a coerced confession. It may also be possible to negotiate some plea bargain which you can live with and which will avoid any conviction being placed on your record. If you do not already have an attorney, you may contact me for a free consultation.
