Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Divorce settlement breach?

I was divorced Aug/2005 in Illinois after an 8 year marriage. My xhusband was obsessed with money and had complete control of our assets. I never knew what we had, as he was very secretive and hid it all from me. I worked full time & contributed 50% to our bills. My husband earned 4 times what I did.

He filed and used intimidation saying if I didn't sign the settlement, (which gave me 10% and him 90%) my life would be in danger. He said nothing would stop him and NObody was going to take ''his'' money. He also threatened to steal my dogs or try to get them in court. He knew my dogs were very important to me, even though he didn't care neans about them. I signed.

I just found out that he hid many more assets & did not claim how much he really had (over 1.3 Million) and that he also bought a $400K house he didn't claim in the settlement. He just sold that house.

QUESTION:

Does hiding assets constitute a breach in the settlement and can I go back to get my share of the assets he hid?

Re: Divorce settlement breach?

Hello. In my opinion you can take your ex-husband back to court and ask the judge to hold him in contempt of court for lying about his assets. Your ex is in "hot water" if this can be proven to the court. You need a lawyer. This is a very serious matter. I will be happy to discuss this with you further and in more detail.
