Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Hello I have a friend who's astranged wife is taking him to court to place a restraining order against him, now he has proof that they were on good terms for the dates she is claiming , would he need to get a lawyer and would this be on his permanent record with or without a lawyer ? thank you in advance

It is a serious charge and could have effect on other areas if an order is entered against him. He should have a lawyer.
