Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Legal Name Change for Minor

My 3 year old daughter has her fathers last name and he is on the birth certificate. Her father has not been in her life since she was 2 months old. I live in Illinois and last I heard he lives in Tennesse. I want to change her last name to mine. How do I do that since I have no idea where he is. I have no contact infomation. Is this going to be a problem?

Re: Legal Name Change for Minor

Hello. This can be done, however you would have to publish the name change proceedings, under these circumstances. This would satisfy the court, in my opinion. Will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have regarding this.
