Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Can my wage be reduced?

I am a statutory employee for a company that I have worked for for 3-1/2 years. I have been at the same wage throughout my employment. Previously I worked Saturdays, but in August of this year I changed my schedule to the first and third Saturdays of each month. I was not told at that time that my wage would decrease. Yesterday my employer informed me that my job description is going to change and I will be an editor doing some medical transcription. I told them my schedule; however, I forgot to tell them that I no longer work every Saturday. When I called today to inform my employer of the mistake I was told that if I chose to work the 1st and 3rd Saturdays that my wage would decrease. I would like to know if this is legal since I had already made the transition to working the 1st and 3rd Saturdays and have not had a pay deduction. I was told that this was lack of communication on the part of my previous transcription coordinator.

Re: Can my wage be reduced?

If you reduce your hours, it's only natural that your wages get decreased. If it was an oversight, then your employer is within his rights. At any rate, your employer can still dictate your wages as he sees fit.
