Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

i paid my rent late numerous times,which was readily accepted by the landlord, my landlord never sent me a notice of late fee incurred or being charge. now after my walkthrough when i asked for my security deposit back he mentions that i was late in payments and he will charge me for the fees accrued over the course of tenancy. is that legal? need help.

Read your lease. If you don't have a lease, he said/she said..... If your landlord is only hitting you with late fees without a carrying charge, you actually are getting a break..... The only thing the landlord may be legally obligated to do is return your security deposit but let you know at the same time what the deducts are.
