Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Unsafe Conditions

I had my identity stolen and my checking account broken into along with passing through of conterfeit money through my account by the person(s) who have my information. I have also recieved by default(rerouted through the postal service by address change service) a package of more of the counterfeit documents. I have contacted the police and there are notes being left on my car and individuals lurking around my apartment notifying me that they will be back for the ''packages''. I dont feel comfortable living in my apartment anymore. Can I break my lease for this reason?

Re: Unsafe Conditions

Hello. In my opinion you cannot afford to stay there. Your safety is

at risk. I would look for a sub-tenant to sublease the apartment to.

Talk to your landlord ahead of time

and let him know what your situation is. In this way, your move-out will not come as such a shock. Will be happy to discuss this further and in

more detail.
