I moved into a condominium in 2001 that was converted from a rental building. About a month ago, I received a letter from the property manager requesting a copy of a RESPA (closing statement). It states my unit's file did not contain this info. This info is suppose to have the owner of the unit, unit number, any parking that was purchased, and tax ID number. They say the Condo Associaton is in need of this info. I looked through all of my papers and cannot locate this info. Would my mortgage company have a copy? Is there another name for this document? I am also wondering why the Association would need this info. Is there a legal or legitimate reason for requesting this? I lived in a condo before and it was an established condo long before I moved in and they never wanted such info. Thank you.

They need a copy of the HUD-1 because?? Send them a copy of the recorded deed; that's all the info they need. I would never give them my SSN.

I can think of no reason they should have a copy of any of your purchase or loan documents. I can only guess that they are asking for a copy of your HUD-1 Settlement Statement. This document may have your personal financial details. You can certainly give them a copy of the deed, which is part of the public record anyway. This document will have the owner's name, unit number, whether any parking was included as part of the conveyance, and the units taxpayer identification number. If by tax ID number they mean your social security number, I would not give thatt to them either.
