death of my father
my father just passed and how do I find out if he had a will or insurance policy. he is being held at the morgue and I don't have the money to bury him. I havn't seen him in a while and I'm the only family

Unfortunately, you have some scavenger-hunt and detective work to do. Try to find his check book, calendar, tax return, etc. See if there is an attorney, CPA who did his taxes (the name will be on the tax return itself if you can find it). Any statements no matter how old from banks, insurance companies etc. Who did he used to work for? Maybe there is a retirement plan or insurance. Is he a Veteran? If so there will be a small life insurnace policy.
There is no public registry for these things. Good luck.
