Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

My wife died suddenly prior to us getting a will completed. We were married less than a year. Since she had NO will what-so-ever, am I, as the husband, but not a receipient of any estate, am I responsible for her unpaid medical bills? The bills were in her maiden name, and not in our married name.

Thanks.

Her" estate" is responsible for her debts. Her estate consists of property held solely in her name. If anything remains in her estate after payments of debts, then the property passes to her heirs. You are her heir as well as her children, if any.
