Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Am I responsible for my husband medical bills?

Even if I didn't sign anything. They didn't contact me until two weeks after I sent them a letter disputing it, because it's on my credit report. They told my husband they never received the letter. I was also told to send the letter to a different address then what the person that called said their address was. When I called, I called the number that was listed on my credit report and sent the letter to the address they told me to send it to. Can you please advice me? Thank you

Re: Am I responsible for my husband medical bills?

Medical bills incurred by a spouse during the time of the marriage can often be enforced against the other spouse on a support and necessities of life basis. Still, you are entitled to dispute the amount and let them show why the debt is proper. So, if they don't provide you with the correct address, you may have a claim against them under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Send letters by certified mail, return receipt requested, so you have good evidence.
