Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My son, whom I share joint custody with my ex (I have physical custody), has moved in with him for the time being. He will eventually come back to stay with me. My ex wants me to give him sole custody since he is with him now. Do I have to do that, and if so, why?

I think it revolves around when he is coming back ( a date certain), or whether his return is abstract (when he feels like it). You never have to agree to it.
