Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

I live in Iowa. I was arrested in September and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. As I have a clean record, I am eligible for the "diversion" program, as to eventually have my charges removed from my criminal record upon completing drug courses. As this case is fairly cut and dry, and I have very little money to spend, I am representing myself in court on Nov. 14th. I'd just like some advice on what I should expect in this situation, and if it'd be correct to say something along the lines of "Your honor, I plead guilty to the charges and as a first time offender, request placement in the drug diversion program as to have these charges removed from my record upon satisfactory completion". Thank you!

If you're representing yourself and you have an agreement with the county attorney in exchange for your plea, you might mention the plea agreement. of course the court is not bound by any plea agreement.
