Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa

Charged for loss of tools

Hello, I work for a company that requires us to pay for tools that are lost or broken. Is this legal? For instance, they require me to carry a cell phone and be on call 24-7. If I break or loose the cell phone I get charged for it. After 2 or 3 years problems are bound to arise.

Thanks for your input!!

Re: Charged for loss of tools

It is entirely reasonable for yourcompany to require that employees re-imburse the company for breaking company property. If you wanted, you could try to negotiate having a cheaper type of cellphone, rather than the company-issued phone for day-to-day use.
