Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Kansas

I have worked inside a Costco warehouse for 8 months. I was not a Costco employee. I was employed by a vendor who had a kiosk set up within the Costco warehouse. I am also a Costco member. During my tenure with the vendor who did business inside of Costco I left the warehouse after my shifts with no issues carrying out my covered legal pad where I kept my sales notes. I had never been demanded to stop to have my slim (1") portflio checked and examined for theft. However, on 7/8/11 I was made to stop upon leaving the warehouse, made to unzip my folder to have it searched. Of course this was exteremly embarrassing. I called my employer immediately to quit my much needed job. I couldn't bring myself to be comfortable to being searched every time I left the warehouse. I feel certain I would have had been physically detained had I refused. I would like to persue a legal course of action on perhaps the basis of unlegal search.

There is no such thing as an illegal search by a private company in the circumstance you have described. If you had refused the search and they did physically detain you, then you may of had a lawsuit for assault and battery and/or false arrest, but since you complied with the search, you have no case.
