Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas

We have recently been served with foreclosure papers on our home. What is our next step? Do we need a lawyer? What if we are not contesting the foreclosure? We can no longer afford our house because my husband is layed off and my income has been slashed by 50% due to job change.

there could be very good reasons to consutl direclty with an attorney before deciding to defautl on a foreclosure petition. Kansas foreclosures are tedious procedures. Many creditors are willign to give concessions and sometimes even pay money to debtors who make it easier for them. If you do nothing, they wil likely take the judgment, sel the house and come after you for the diffenrec e betwene what the house sold for and the amoutn of the judgment (usually much more than you originally owed) An attorney might be able to negotiate to where you will no longer owe the lender anything, and they might pay you to help them speed up the process. Many attorneys offer a free or low cost initial consultation.

Good luck
