Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Filed Tax together as Married

My ex-boyfriend and I filed tax together last year as married under the common law of Kansas. That was the only time we filed together as married. We are no longer together and I was wondering if I have to file for Divorce in order to claim single for my next year's tax in Kansas. Please advise.

I would suggest you visit with the person who does you taxes.

A divorce is the only reliable way to resolve this problem. You could amend the earlier tax return, alleging a mistake, but that produces a host of other problems that would have to be dealt with by you and your ex-boyfriend/husband. Consult your tax advisor also.
