Legal Question in Employment Law in Kansas

need attorney

Assuming that what I am about to say is all true, please tell me what laws are out there to help me. I was slapped at work by another employee that I outranked. Nothing was done and management told me to let it go. Management gives special treatment to certain employees and I was slapped by one of them. This person then proceeded to start spreading lies about me. Those lies kept me from a promotion that I had been awarded. When I tried going to the plant manager about being slapped and the lies,I was intercepted by some of management. They took me in a room, demoted me (which cut my pay by $3.30/hr and cut my hours), intimidated me and threatened me to not say another word about it or we would be back in the office. There is alot more involved by I don't have the space here to tell it. But based on what I have said so far, can you please tell me what laws are out there that stop this kind of thing in the workplace? I was assaulted, humiliated, lied to, lied about, wrongfully kept from my promotion, wrongfully demoted, intimidated, threatened, harrassed and targeted. I am even going to therapy about all this. There has to be laws out there that protect me from this kind of treatment. Can I sue? Someone please respond and help me.

Re: need attorney

The fact pattern that you describe, shows that an assault was committed against you and a battery. If persons were using influence over you to dissuade you from reproting this, then they may have obstructed Justice and possible tampered. You should report the battery, assault and tampering to the police. This is a criminal matter. The plant manager will hear about the criminal investigation, and possibly ask you why you did not report it to him/her. That is when you describe the being pulled aside, threatened, demoted, and cut in pay. If you are having to seek therapy over this ordeal, the company will not likely ignore it.

There may not be any civil litigation available to you, thus far, except for suing the person that slapped you for battery and assault. You could spend a good deal of money to win a $1 judgment, or you might get recompensed for all of your therapy costs, and get additional money for pain and suffering.

You should be consulting an attorney in your area, regulary, during this process. Find one soon. They can advise you about your options after knowing more of the facts.
