Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kentucky

receiving/possesion of stolen property

a friend of mine purchased a tv, tv stand, a dresser with a stolen credit card. she gave me the items because i had just moved into my own place. i didnt know they were bought like that or that they were stolen stuff. she got caught. police came and got stuff from my house. i just had a baby 3 wks ago. this is my first and only offence. state prosicuter wants me to take a guilty plea of receiving stolen property with a sentence of 45 days in jail and a fine. sounded like a bad call to me. was told if i didnt take the plea that when i went to my court date i would get a minimum of 1 year, posss more and bigger fine. what do you think

Re: receiving/possesion of stolen property

You shold have an attorney. You always stand a risk. Receiving stolen property carries a 1-5 year penalty if the property has a value in excess of $300.00. . Under the statute passed in 2000, the mere possession of recently stolen property is sufficient evidence to sustain a conviction. Your local counsel wold best be able to advise you on this since he should have a better sense of the local court system.
