Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

When can a child decide where he wants to live?

I would like to know at what age a child can go before a judge and let his request be known as to which parent he wants to live with. At what age does he really have a choice, or does he ever? Thanks.

Re: When can a child decide where he wants to live?

Assuming there are no issues of abuse or neglect, a child (even up to age 18) cannot unilaterally make a decision. There is no hard and fast rule as to the age when a child may let his/her preference be known. The older the child, the more weight his/her opinion would carry, but that is only one factor for a judge to consider.
