Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Louisiana

Someone Threatening to Sue me for something that was never agreed upon

My Wife's Mother and 8 year old brother passed away recently..and HER father pay'd for the funeral...and is not threatening to sue me and my wife if we dont agree to pay half...they have been showing up at our work places with Hand written papers trying to get us to sign them saying we'll pay half for funeral...there was no Verbal or Legal or Written agreement when the death's occured stating that we'd pay half for the funeral...is there something i should do about this...or should i hire an attorney? i would get into more detail but it seems that i have run out of space to type :)

Your wife is not personally bound to pay any portion of the burial expenses. Burial expenses may be recouped from the estate when the succession is opened. So, if your wife is an heir of either estate, she will, in essence, pay her share of it when the estate reimburses her father for the expense. She has no legal obligation to pay anything out of her own pocket.
