Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

adoption

I live in Louisiana and my partner is having a little boy in Oct. We were trying to find out how I could adopt him and she still have all legal rights to her son but I would also have parental rights?

Re: adoption

You don't need to adopt. I would suggest that you have a lawyer draft a Joint Custody Agreement (just like divorcing parents would) and an Act of Acknowledgment (of parenthood). Have a judge sign an order recognizing the documents, file it in the courts, and everything is covered. You can even set child support in the agreements.

I suggest that you do this while everyone is friendly so nobody has to sue about it when they aren't.
