when you marry someone are you responsible for their child support ?

I am thinking of marriage and the person I may marry pays child support they are not behind or refusing to pay, I just wanted to know if by some chance, they could not pay there support would I be responsible.

You are not personally responsible.However,if he/she falls behind on his/her child support payments and the other parents gets an executory judgment for past-due support, your wages could be garnished because they are community property (technically half his property).

However, you can stop your property from being seized and/or garnished if both of you agree to do a separation of property agreement that is filed in the public records where you live. That way, there is no community property regime.
