Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

visitation

Thank you. My 14yr old would like to change her visitation with her dad, (original divorce decree was 13 yrs ago). Her main interest is more flexibility and 'voice' in when she goes and returns from her visits with him. Can she emancipate herself from the entire original decree? Her dad and I reside in the same state.

Re: visitation

Usually there is no reason for a child to "emancipate" herself from the custody order. There are many ways to modify the custody/visitation plan depending on how approachable the adults are in the matter.

Have a frank discussion with your daughter about what she wants and if she can discuss this with her father.

Counseling, mediation and compromise may solve this problem without drastic action.
