Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Someone gave me a bird and now wants the bird back. There was no paperwork signed. She lives in MD and I live in VA. i received a letter from an attorney stating that she wants the bird back. Can they take me to court? Would she win? What are my options?

It sounds like the bird was a gift. If the bird was a gift, you have no obligation under the law to give it back. I would like to see the attorney letter before I gave you your chances of success if she sues you.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******

I agree with the prior answer, this appears to be a gift. However, more information is needed regarding the circumstances surrounding the transfer. There is also an issue regarding the particular jurisdiction in this matter. In any event, I am licensed in Maryland, not Virginia. It might do you good to consult with an attorney who is licensed in both jurisdictions.
