Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

Can my employer cut my pay back to 60% without notice? Can they lay off people with no notice, like Friday at 5 PM, you are done? 3 of us are laid off as of Friday COB, 2 of us are having our pay reduced as of Monday (we are salaried employees all). My boss found out just now (after 5 PM Friday), does that constitute notice?

An employer can generally reduce or increase pay as it sees fit, however the law does require a limited amount of notice before decreasing pay. An employer can generally lay off or terminate employees with or without advance notice so long as they are at-will employees and the termination isn't related to illegal discrimination. There is no general requirement of notice to terminate an at-will employee (just like there is no general requirement that an employee give notice before quitting). Contract employees can only be let go under the terms of the contract.
