Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

Hello,

I was a contractor for an agency and my contract ended just in time for me to fly abroad to attend the funeral and burial ceremonies for my mom who i lost in the Spring. The agency expressed interest in me coming back but i never got an offer. I applied for UI immediately my contract ended and was denied citing 'voluntary quit' (untrue as my contract ended) and was given an interview date that was to happen when i was away. I returned 5 wks later and called the UI office to appeal and ask what to do since i'd missed. I was told i couls appeal and get a hearing. One lady said to fax in a statement explaining the situation and I why i'd missed the call then file my telecert the upcoming Sunday. I did that the very same day. A week later i got yet another notice saying 'benefits are not being paid because of a current disqualification'....i am so confused. I need this money and have no understanding of why i wouldn't qualify! I was not fired, i did not quit.....Help!

There could be a variety of explanations as to why you were denied, all based on the specific facts of your situation. I may want to check out the following website for more information.
