Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

I realize that there is a cap on compensatory and punitive damages, for maryland I believe it is $300,000 for an an employer of 50 or more which fits my case. The question is; is the the Title VII charge or $300,000 for EACH charge under title VII? Also is payment for equal pay restricted to 2/3 years back? My charges are against the state of MD for Equal Pay, race, discrimination, sex discrimination and sexual harassment

You need to hire an attorney before you do anything to discuss the specifics of your case.

"Title VII" refers to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a federal statute. Since the enactment of the Civil Rights Act, many states have enacted the same or similar statutes. The state of Maryland has a cap on damages (higher than you list in your question), however that only applies if you are suing in Maryland state courts. If you sue in federal court, the cap likely will not apply. Of course, there's also the issue of whether you can sue a state in federal court. Like I said, you need a lawyer who can discuss the specifics of your case and your options.

Best of luck.*****The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
