Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

Subpoena my verizon landline records

I have a hearing concerning backpay coming up. I will be representing myself before the MD/DC council.(union claims it is a conflict of interest}I have all my info together except telephone records. I am told by Verizon that my own landline records have to be subpoenaed.I am having trouble finding a attorney with this knowledge, who can accomplish this matter. I know what Verizons fees are, how expensive will the attorneys fees be? Any attorneys in the Baltimore area that can help me?

Re: Subpoena my verizon landline records

You say "MD/DC council" but not exactly what forum you are in front of. If this is a human rights commission in either jurisdiction, they may have subpoena power. You therefore can check the rules of procedure for the commission or whatever group you are in front of(it should be online)to see what you have to do to request that they issue subpoenas. (I do not believe you need an attorney for these kind of subpoenas.) There are timeframes so act quick. If the group you are in front of does not have supboena power, then there is nothing you can do legally unless you eventually take your case into court. Then the court can authorize you or your attorney to issue subpoenas. But you can certainly call Verizon back and try to get some records of your calls (such as past billing statements that show the calls), even if they are not official ones. Keep asking for the next higher up supervisor until you find someone who can help or give a definitive "no". Also, be aware that Verizon, even if subpoenaed, will need time to find the records. So if the hearing is soon, try to think of an alternate way to prove whatever it is you are trying to prove. (Other records, testimony, etc.)

Good luck.
