Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

My son recently agreed to plow for a local landscape company during and after the recent NE blizzard last week. He worked over 36 hrs of which 30 were straight. There was a verbal agreement of $20/hr to be paid the following Friday; today plus gas consumed and documented on his credit card. I accompanied my son for 12 of these hrs and witness to his log sheet of 20 plus multiple plowings and conversations with his boss. He was told by his boss that there is a problem, because of some damage to the bumper of his truck and that the deductible would have to be subtracted from his pay.
