Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

owning a mortgage with someone you are not married with

6 months ago my boyfriend and I purchased a condo together. We didn't put any money down. however the condo is in both our name. We've just recent split up. I'm staying in the condo and he is moving out. Basically since we've lived in the condo together he has contributed 2500.00 which is Sept,Nov, Dec January share of the mortgage. Since I cannot refinance for 5 years I have to keep his name on the mortgage. However, if I choose to sell the condo after 5 years he wants half of the profit. Do i have any rights. What options do I have?

Owning a mortgage with an ex-boyfriend?

YOu should really contact an attorney to discuss this matter. Your rights and options can be explained to you in context of this situation, and in the context of your expectations.

Having said this, the best short-term solution is some agreement. Lacking an agreement you both have a problem.

You can contact me if you have questions or need assistance.

Would he agree to a buy out now for the amount that he contributed? In addition, although you have him on the mortgage, you can still change the deed if he is willing upon buy out.
