Penalty for perjury

If a person gives false testimony under oath during a deposition, which can be proven without any doubt, what penalty can the perjurer be subject to? Are such penalties commonly enforced?

As a practical matter, this can be introduced to impeach their future testimony. I have rarely seen anything else. The only exception is where a party sought sanctions fro the costs of the deposition, and leave to do another deposition.
